Sleep / HRV / training readiness

Track recovery.
Do not outsource judgment.

Withings Body Smart plus WHOOP 5.0 Peak is the selected recovery stack. Both arrived in August 2026, combining sleep duration, overnight HRV, strain and body-composition trends in one workflow.

01ECOSYSTEMS

Choose where decisions live.

No consumer ecosystem measures sleep stages perfectly. The useful outputs are consistent sleep duration, your own overnight HRV trend, resting heart rate, and training context.

Garmin + Index S2

Keep this if frictionless weight sync matters more than changing sleep analytics. Add MacroFactor for a better weight trend and rate-of-loss view.

  • One account for scale and training
  • No new wearable subscription
  • Sleep performance remains the weak point you already notice

Withings + WHOOP 5.0

Best fit for weight, sleep, HRV, strain, and readiness in one recovery-centered workflow. WHOOP directly imports Withings weight, fat, and lean mass.

  • WHOOP 5.0 arrived 13 August
  • Withings Body Smart arrived 11 August

Oura Ring

Strong sleep-first experience and unobtrusive overnight wear. It can import weight through Apple Health or Health Connect, but its weight workflow is less direct than WHOOP plus Withings.

  • Good for sleep regularity and overnight trends
  • Ring fit can be affected by finger swelling
  • Separate scale and health-platform bridge required
02COMPARISON

What each stack does well.

The key difference is workflow, not a magical readiness algorithm. Pick the system you will wear and check consistently.

03VALIDATION

Useful signal, imperfect truth.

Independent results are encouraging for overnight HRV and total sleep time. They do not validate every sleep stage or a proprietary readiness score.

Readiness scoreContext

WHOOP and sleep duration

In one polysomnography study, WHOOP overestimated total sleep time by an average of 8.2 minutes. A separate six-device study found an average difference of -12.2 minutes.

WHOOP and overnight HRV

The six-device study reported an intraclass correlation of 0.99 for WHOOP HRV. That supports following your own trend under similar conditions, not comparing scores across brands.

Readiness is not clearance

Alcohol, illness, accumulated stress, and measurement noise can all shift the score. Symptoms and training performance outrank the color shown by an app.

04WEIGHT CHANGE

Alert on trend, not noise.

MacroFactor is the practical layer for seeing whether your rate of change is too fast. It smooths weight and estimates energy expenditure from intake plus scale trend.

STARTING RULE

About 0.5% per week.

1Use daily or frequent weigh-ins.
2Judge the smoothed multiweek trend.
3Start near 0.5% of body weight weekly.
4Slow down if performance, sleep, mood, or recovery declines.
Investigate persistent loss above roughly 1% per week. Faster is not automatically unsafe, but it increases the chance of lean-mass loss and under-fueling. Breath-hold athletes should also watch for fatigue, cold intolerance, recurrent injury, libido or menstrual changes, and deteriorating performance.
